UPPER BLOOMFIELD BROWNSTONE | Hoboken, New Jersey

General Contractor: Brinton Brosius
Photographer: Tim Lenz

Our clients shared our passion for preservation and historical homes.

Upon visiting the brownstone for the first time, we knew this was a project and partnership we were excited about. Our clients had purchased the home from a couple who had lived in the house for over thirty years so many of the historic details remained.

The plan was to turn the brownstone into a two-family (creating a separate garden apartment for extended family) and to update and restore the century old townhouse on one of the best blocks in town.

Our clients shared our passion for preservation and historical homes. We reused and restored original doors, hardware, knobs, mantles, and ceiling details throughout. We removed and repurposed some of the beautiful ceiling medallions in the extension.

Our clients enjoy hosting friends and family and wanted something elegant but not too precious considering their young family. We kept that in mind and designed a kid- friendly zone on the top floor. We added custom millwork throughout, including the kitchen, bathrooms, den/office and laundry room and turned to vintage and custom furnishings to compliment the architect of the home.

The renovation was completed in April/May 2023. At the tail end of the project our clients welcomed their second child and moved into their beautifully restored home.
